Tayrona National Natural Park Closes Temporarily in 2025
Tayrona National Natural Park, a jewel of Colombia's Caribbean coast, undergoes periodic closures to facilitate ecological restoration and honor indigenous traditions. In 2025, the park will be closed during the following periods:
February 1–15, 2025
June 1–15, 2025
October 19 – November 2, 2025
These closures are coordinated with the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta—Arhuaco, Kankuamo, Kogui, and Wiwa—to allow for ecosystem recovery and the performance of spiritual rituals, such as "Kugkui shikasa," aimed at restoring the natural balance of this sacred territory.
Alternative Experiences During Park Closures
While Tayrona Park is inaccessible during these times, the surrounding Sierra Nevada region offers enriching alternatives:
Sewiaxa Community Tour: Engage in a cultural and gastronomic journey within an
indigenous community.
Mamaduwa Horseback Expedition: Explore sacred sites and immerse yourself in Kogui cosmology.

Hidden Waterfalls and Rivers: Discover lesser-known natural wonders nestled in the Sierra Nevada.
These experiences provide meaningful connections with local communities and the natural environment, aligning with principles of regenerative and cultural tourism.
